PTSC Newsletter 2024-01-06

Howdy folks,

What a week. Early in the week, you definitely needed your rock skis. As the week wore on, they had been blowing snow in Aurora and Jordan, opened it Wednesday and you had good skiing on snow! Now they are blowing snow on Spruce and South Ridge, and working their way back across the mountain, bringing back the conditions Sunday River is known for. Skiing has been “variable”, “interesting” and downright challenging at times. It’s nice to see the mountain getting back in shape, and so quickly after the calamity that came upon it less than 2 weeks ago. Kudos to Sunday River and Boyne! We are sending them a letter expressing our heartfelt appreciation, with signatures of those who attended Thursday’s pot luck.

New member meet and greet. We are planning a new member meet and greet, to be held at the Sunday River Brew Pub, this Thursday, January 11th. Come in the main entrance, head to the right, we’ll be down by the fireplace. If you are a new member this year or last, you and your spouse/partner are invited to join the club officers at 4:30 PM and learn a little about what the club is and what it does. At 5:30, the rest of the club members will start showing up. We’ll have some finger foods set out and there will be a cash/cashless bar.

Senior week, or go fifty week. January 22 thru the 26th. Monday at 10 AM is the always popular cinnamon bun social at North Peak. There will be $40.00 demos and $50.00 classic tunes, which many may want after skiing down Rocky River…. Er… I mean Lazy River this week.

Ski Lessons. What better way to start out the new year than to work on improving your skiing?  The Sunday River Snow Sports School is offering Prime Time members two “4-packs” of group ski lessons.  These lessons will be on Tuesday afternoons from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.  Each “4-pack” (four clinics/lessons) will be $139 and will need to be purchased in the ski school office (the building behind the fire pit at the base of South Ridge).  The first four lessons will be on Tuesdays, 1/23, 1/30, 2/6, and 2/13.  The second group of four sessions, if there is interest, would run 2/27, 3/5, 3/19, 3/26.

If you’re interested, please email Brenda Saller at gb1saller@gmail.com.  Brenda coordinates the list of names with the school office.  (These “4-packs” are a special program just for Prime Time.)

Maine Adaptive needs volunteers. If you have the time and ability, consider volunteering for this organization. You’ll be helping people who only need a little, or a lot, of help to enjoy skiing.

Great American is offering 15% off services to your skis such as tuning. We’ll try to get this added to the website soon.
