Board update, December 1, 2012

Hi all,
I’m hearing GREAT skiing for what’s open at SR. About 28 trails open right now (see their website on our website). They still haven’t been afforded a good snow event, so it’s all man-made, but I hear it’s spectacular. The 300 new snow guns are all active and creating a great base while the groomers are doing their jobs making it wonderful early season conditions. We need to start changing our mindset. Fall is over, winter is HERE, time to ski.
Potluck Thursday Dec. 13th:
All events listed on the events schedule previously sent and also on the website www.primetimeskiclub.com.
Dues:
We’re basically there now friends. Time to reach into the wallet. Dues are on time as of 12/15. Grace is given until 12/31 and a new membership list is published and due to mail thereafter. As I said in the last note, Bruce and Anita would appreciate your mailed check made out to Primetime so they can enjoy the potluck night too. $15 does the deed.
Membership cards:
The Board is not planning to send out new cards this year, so if you don’t have your membership card any longer, please contact Anita at abhask@aol.com for a new one.
Member discounts available:
New restaurant as well as ski and tuning discounts are attached below and will be continuously updated online. On website “activities”. Suzie has done and incredible job once again of bringing us all some great discounts on meals and ski maintenance.
Members notes:
All new members receive both an email from Anita, a membership list and a welcoming letter from me along with a membership card and several promotional cards. Each current member not renewing by 12/15 receives a note from Anita. On/after 1/1 all departing members receive a “sorry to see you go” note from me and a new membership list will be sent out thereafter. We have four-five new members already this season.
New members:
We’re early in the year, but we’re finding additional new members joining the team. Welcome all. FYI, you’re not alone as we’re adding roughly 20 or so new folks each year just like you. If you’d like to chat, please feel free to contact me jeffzucchi@aol.com or anyone on the Board (you should have a membership list).
If you’re looking to simply meet and fit in, we have a potluck dinner Thursday Dec. 13th and we’d love to have you come meet the family (no RSVP necessary-just a dish and BYOB). We expect about 40-45 Primetimers and it’s a great way to meet and be met. If you want, ask for any of the Board members and we’ll introduce you around.
If that doesn’t work out, most members boot up weekday mornings in December at the Mahoosac Room at about 8:30-8:45 or so. We’ll start meeting at North Peak at 10am in January.
Budget:
Complete, attached We’ll address at the potluck.

Please note also on the website is a “Press” tab. Pat has begun the first contacts with the Bethel Citizen to begin our weekly “Primetime Ski Club Updates”. Check it out beginning mid-December in the paper or you can access on our website.
The Ski Basics:
We’re entering a new ski season. One of our major goals is the reduction of member’s injuries. In that vein, please consider these simple, very basic recommendations:
  1. Check your equipment now, before you want to ski. Check boots, skis, helmet, goggles, warm clothing. Got your pass?
  2. Maintain the important stuff. If your helmet has taken a whack EVER or is older than five years, consider replacing it. It’s $100+/- to protect YOUR HEAD. They can fix your leg and you’re good as new. Head? $100!!!!!
  3. Maintain the connection points. Have you had a boot fitting within two years? It’s cheap, and ties your feet to your boots. You’ll ski better and feel better too. Leg>foot>boot>binding>ski>snow (get it?). What’s right in the middle?
  4. Maintain your skis. Check your binding din level. Most people skip this step yet we had one member slide down from the top of White Heat last year because his din was “0” after a season end tune. Check edges and wax. Discounts available as shown above.
  5. Start slow. Early season conditions are funky and sometimes risky with rocks jumping out in front of us, etc. None of us is in mid-season condition either. Tired muscles don’t respond well which is never good. Take some breaks and quit early. Its a long season and we’ll have plenty of runs upcoming.
  6. Watch those cotton-pickin’ green or orange two-legged signs in the middle of trails. THEY DON’T MOVE, and they’re not like going around a ski gate. You hook a ski inside one is nearly a guaranteed season ending injury, or worse. Get away!!!
