PTSC Newsletter 31 January, 2026

Good-bye to January!

And Thank-You very much! It was a very good month of skiing on fresh natural snow – ESPECIALLY this past week and (earlier in the month) some reasonable temperatures. Best of all we did not get the typical Thaw – Freeze cycles, that ruins the snow conditions, and we seem to usually get in mid-January. ALL (“100%”) of the trails and even the trees (if you go there) are now open. We are heading into the mid-winter season and conditions are excellent – Get out there and enjoy it while you can!

Our next club Pot Luck Dinner is on 5 February starting at 5:30 PM at the Dr Moses Mason House / Bethel Historical Society, exhibit hall/barn behind the Dr Moses Mason House; 10 Broad Street in Bethel.  Enter through the Side Door on Mason Street. As usual BYOB and a dish to share.

Maine Ski and Snowboard Museum Event: a preview of the Oxford County Ski Olympians Exhibit. Friends of the Museum (that’s us) are invited to a preview party: Friday Feb 6 from 4-6 at the Robinson House, Bethel Historical Society, Broad Street, Bethel. An informal gathering to view the exhibit featuring biographies, skis, uniforms, banners and memorabilia from nine skiers, a snowboarder, four coaches and six technical experts, all from Oxford County, that participated in the Winter Olympics from 1948-2018. Light refreshments, Come and go as you please. Visit with honorees.  The exhibit will be open to the public Tues-Sat. from 1-3 pm Feb. 7-  April 4.

GAME AFTERNOON… Another opportunity to come join us to meet & mix with members off the snow. Come whenever you finish skiing for social, drink, grab food etc… February 12 – 12:30 till… Upstairs outside the Foggy Google (extension room) you can enter from inside South Ridge thru Mahoosuc room up the stairs (door says No Entry but not locked). Game night turning into Game Afternoon…..Bring your favorite game, but will also have games for those interested. Questions , more info contact Suzie DuBois

Ski Safe! As we get into mid-season with great ski conditions we are sure to see more skiers out there mid-week; many of who don’t ski as much as we Prime Timers. So, Remember to keep your ‘Head on a Swivel’ and ‘Use Your Blinkahs’ [eyes] – especially at trail intersections and when you make a Big Turn and or Lane Change (like when you pull over to the side of the trail to stop).

As always we are looking for ideas and help organizing and running Club Events. If you would like to organize and or lead a new activity or event, or have a great suggestion, we would love to hear from you; the Board Members can’t do it all, we need your help. If you would like to contribute any photos to share with the club on the website please contact any board member or reply to this email.
