Thanks to volunteers under Carol’s tenure as President

I want to thank Barbara Richards for the compliments in her Announcement e-mail regarding my recent resignation. It made me reflect on what’s happened in the past few months. While I (and the Board) may be the ‘visible’ ones, there are many behind the scenes who helped to accomplish all the wonderful things Barbara spoke about. Obviously, the ‘NEW’ Board will do what they think is best for the club – it doesn’t require me to lead them. I have been a member for over 10 years and wouldn’t be skiing today were it not for the existence of Prime Time. I consider it a privilege to have served the club members and will continue to be a member of the club. Look for the lime green ski pants on the slopes.

Volunteers were ‘invited’ by me to serve without sitting on the Executive Board or general Board. Despite the fact that members come to ski and socialize, many worked behind the scenes; sometimes for one event, sometimes on an on-going basis. It is important to me to acknowledge their efforts and thank them for their service to the club during my tenure as President. So here they are in no particular order:

  • Sunday River Mountain Liason – Jeff Zucchi
  • Website maintenance & design (from 2010 – 2013) – Herb Gross
  • Website design – Denn Santoro & Helen Granger (also designed PT Rack Card & a new PT Logo!)
  • Write Prime Time Club History – Bruce Larson
  • Sunshine Club – Ruth Marshman
  • Activities Interest Group Coordinator – Susan Brenner
  • Newspaper articles (Bethel Citizen) – Terri Messer
  • Member Photo compilation – Joan Stanley, Denn Santoro, and Betty Anne Tyson
  • Survey of how members (how they found  PT ) – Paula Gross
  • Website Committee – Herb Gross, Norman Schwartz, and Bruce Larson
  • Hosts of various events – Jackie & Jerry Bell, MJ & Dave Shiverick, and Jan Stecchi
  • Partners who also hosted events – Sport Thoma (Demo Day & Lunch; Boot 101 chat)
  • Despite the fact that she serves as Membership Chair, I simply have to mention Anita Haskell once again for her indefatigable work on the Membership Directory (using one hand to type)!

Our club has grown by well over 50% in the past year or two. That means that some of the laid-back intimacy that members knew and loved (such as easy communication at the Peak or Pot Luck dinners) doesn’t always serve the total members now. I looked for creative and inclusive ways to get members involved in ‘their’ club. The aforementioned people helped to facilitate people meeting and contacting each other. Information was shared both through e-mails and the website (ok, maybe too much or too often as I’ve been told by some). More members (especially new) have been able to participate in a meaningful way in activities and events of the club. We also opened up wonderful opportunities to learn about ski equipment and boot fitting through ‘partner’ businesses (like Sport Thoma). Many things that worked so well in the past were continued (discounts with local businesses and numerous social events), and our excellent relationship with Sunday River mountain management was maintained (Jeff Zucchi).  I am honored to have served the club.  Enjoy skiing – that’s what I’ll be doing.

Ciao,

Carol Larson

(former President Prime Time)
