December 2013 Newsletter

Dear Members,

PLEASE read, record dates, etc. or check our website to find the details you’ll need to attend events this season. Your board would like to ski instead of responding to dozens of phone calls. We’re working hard to produce a fun-filled calendar for you. RSVP’s help planners and hosts; please respect their efforts and generosity by responding in a timely manner. All e-mail addresses on the website will be changed to protect the innocent. We are substituting the symbol ‘@’ with the word ‘at’ (to protect info on website) so please make adjustments if you are going to e-mail someone. Topics are bolded; skim and read what is of interest to you. All members (now almost 150); please put the number for SR SKI PATROL into your cell phones (207 824-5350.) We are currently working on discounts and events and will have more info soon. Please read and respond to ‘Member Photos‘ section.

Bruce and I celebrate Christmas so we hope you have a great one – or whatever holiday you may celebrate this time of year. Welcome to 2013/14 Season!

Ciao, Carol

PHOTOS of Members

Please e-mail member, Joan Stanley (stanleyjoan at verizon.net ) has graciously agreed to assemble membership photos so your board (forgetful people like me!) can figure out who’s who. PLEASE send a head shot (without helmet or goggles) to her at above e-mail (notice the safety chg to e-mail address) with YOUR NAME. We’ll assemble the photos and the board will use them to figure out who we are talking to, etc. There are just so many new members, we old folks can’t keep track! Thanks for your cooperation – this is voluntary, of course.

Membership Cards are Critical this year!

You’ll need to show your card (for discounts or SR vouchers for lift tickets) so find it and keep it safe. New cards will be available by sending a self addressed, stamped envelope to Anita (address below) and there will be a $5 fee put into place for replacement cards. We’ll waive the fee until the end of January to get everyone in tune with the new policy.

Membership Directory

The directory will be published in January (ONCE A YEAR); if you haven’t already done so, please pay dues and return authorization form soon. If you wait until after Dec 31, you might not be listed in the directory. Monthly addendums will list new members after January 1st. We’d like to see that everyone gets the most out of their membership! Hard Copies of the membership directory will be available at events (we don’t want it on, nor has it ever been on, the website). I’m hearing that membership might want it sent out by e-mail. We’ll listen and respond but right now the board policy is ‘hard copies’ – we’ll take up the matter at the next board meeting (in January).

VOUCHERS Sunday River & others

We are one of 2 clubs who are still allowed to use corporate discount vouchers to purchase lift tickets. PLAN AHEAD! Sunday River REQUIRES you and your Prime Time membership card to buy lift tickets (up to 4 per voucher); a photo ID is also necessary. To obtain a voucher, contact a board member, go to the Mahoosuc Room at 8:30am, or pick them up at the following houses: Ruth & Bruce Marshman, Gail Fortuna, or Herb & Paula Gross (call ahead to arrange times). There is NO COST for vouchers so get as many as you might need.

Other mountains offer good discounts: Bretton Woods offers $25 for seniors (65+) but also offers us a club discount for those under 65 ($50/day instead of $79). Mt. Abrams has various deals like $75 Fridays (for a car full of people). Check them all out.
