Legends of Maine Ski Race

The Legends of Maine Grand Slalom Ski Race to benefit the Ski Museum of Maine’s efforts to maintain a satellite exhibit in the Bethel area has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 6. The original January race date was cancelled due to snow, mixed precipitation and freezing rain. Here is your chance to race with some of Maine’s ski legends including Chip Cochrane, Karl Anderson, Greg Sweetser, Tim LaVallee and Bob Harkins. The NASTAR-style race course will be located on lower Monday Mourning and will be set for all abilities from mid-level to advanced skiers. The race is open to those 50 and over. Divisional medals will be given out to both men’s and women’s categories for ages 50-59, 60-69 and 70 plus and there will be fun prizes for best crash, last place and more.

Registration is at Barker Lodge from 9 a.m. to noon the day of the race. The race begins at 1 p.m. Entry fee is $40 with a season pass and $55 with a lift ticket included. The cost includes the race, prizes, after-race party and food at Barker Bar as well as a donation to the Ski Museum of Maine which currently maintains an exhibit on skiing in Maine at the Bethel Historical Society, located across the street from the Bethel Inn. Pre-registration is now much easier and can be completed online at the museum’s website www.skimuseumofmaine.org.  Pre registrations will receive a $5 discount on the entry fee.

The event is being organized by Prime Time Ski Club member, Wende Gray, president of the Ski Museum of Maine.

The will be an après ski party at the Barker Bar at 4:00 to celebrate the race.
