SNOW!!!!!
SNOW………SNOW………SNOW………….SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s not only where you are, it’s here too. That hasn’t happened in the past three or so years. SR reports 16″, which is like 36″ to a snow starved mountain. Light, powdery stuff all over the place. White ground, white trails, white trees, white roofs, white sky. It’s like an absence of color party! Yeah, Portland set a record with 32″ too. Big deal. Only cars slide on your snow, we can ski on ours….na na na na.
SR went from 87 to 99 open trails today alone. More tomorrow I’d think. Next week is forecasting nice mild temps too, just for us. WWWWOOOOHHOOOOOO!!!!!
Last week’s Annual Wine Tasting was the best we’ve ever had. We had an oversold situation with about 27 members wanting in with a cap of 20. Eight different wines to taste over about two and a half hours! Our longest wine tasting and people didn’t want to leave until I started moving tables back and our clean up crew started prying glasses from clenched hands!!! Outstanding.
THIS WEEK……
When we’re not skiing, we’re partying. Two huge events and two lesser huge events.
Monday:
If precedent holds it’s likely you could find some PT friends at the Phoenix for $5 burgers. Set up something yourself or check around who may be going. It’s not a set thing, but it’ll happen.
Tuesday:
Mardi Gras Party at Mill Hill Tavern. Details had been provided previously (last email, on website). We have a capacity crowd and attendance is full. If you haven’t already signed up, think Thursday’s potluck.
Wednesday:
Board meets while members get to ski, play or rest.
Thursday:
Mid Season Potluck 5:30pm, at the Bell’s residence, 129 Paradise Rd, Bethel. If needed, call Jackie Bell at 207-357-3154. BYOB and a dish for 5-7. This open to all, no sign up needed. This is usually our biggest potluck of the season and we’re rarely invited back to the same place twice!!
The next week is President’s Week (18-22) a time when our personal mountain becomes invaded by multiple thousands of people we don’t know. A time where many Primetimers have family and people they don’t usually ski with living with them until the clock or patience runs out. A time where a bronze pass holder impatiently sits and watches gold and silver pass holders ski weeklong. If you don’t see as many Primetimers at the 10am’s, you’ll understand why. If you see a bronze pass holder (like me) use care when approaching!!!
March events:
We’ll have at least four major events scheduled in March.
  • Wind down Potluck (3/7)
  • Sugarloaf/Saddleback overnight ski trip (working)
  • Wildcat day ski trip
  • End of Season Dinner, Phoenix House? Sudbury Inn? Other? (3/21)
Here are a couple funnies for you. If you want to have some real fun, assign a person you know to each of the following. For example, my wife would tell you #1 was written for me, however most of us would say Herbie is the youngest 50+ personality we know.
Great Truths About Growing Old:
1) Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional.
2) Forget the health food. I need all the preservatives I can get.
3) When you fall down, you wonder what else you can do while you’re down there.
4) You’re getting old when you get the same sensation from a rocking chair that you once got from a roller coaster.
5) It’s frustrating when you know all the answers but nobody bothers to ask you the questions…
6) Time may be a great healer, but it’s a lousy beautician
7) Wisdom comes with age, but sometimes age comes alone. The Four Stages Of Life:
1) You believe in Santa Claus.
2) You don’t believe in Santa Claus.
3) You are Santa Claus..
4) You look like Santa Claus.
Enjoy the SNOW!!!
